About Maria
Maria works from a relational, contemporary psychodynamic perspective, incorporating a holistic awareness of the mind and body into her practice.
Contemporary psychodynamic therapy explores how early experiences and relationships shape our present patterns of thinking, feeling, and relating to others. Maria works from a relational perspective, placing the therapeutic relationship at the heart of the work, where these patterns can be explored safely and thoughtfully to support deeper insight and lasting change. She offers a collaborative, reflective space where clients can explore their internal world, deepen self-understanding, and move towards meaningful, lasting change.
Her approach is integrative and holistic, holding both mind and body in awareness. Alongside talking therapy, Maria recognises the role of the body in processing emotional experience, with sound therapy available as a separate, complementary offering where appropriate.
Maria is an accredited member of BACP and holds an MA in Psychotherapy (Regents University of London) and a Diploma in Child Psychotherapy (CPCAB). She has worked with both adults and children, within the NHS, private and charity sectors.
Maria is engaged in ongoing research and continuing professional development to make sure she keeps up to date with new developments within psychotherapy. She aims to ensure that her practice affords the best-informed care possible.
About Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is a conversation that helps you explore and reflect on yourself and your life. It provides a safe space to discuss your feelings and patterns that may control your life and think more deeply about your relationships. By thinking about yourself in this way you gain more insight into yourself and in turn, become more conscious of who you are. This may bring about change and help you to feel more in control of your life and the decisions that you make.
Psychotherapy is very much a collaboration between therapist and client. It is not something that is done to you, rather a co-created space and coming together of minds to think through the problems you may face. Psychotherapy is not an instant fix, it is a process of discovery, helping to establish new ways of being in the world and relating to others. The sessions are very much led by the client, whereby they lead the dialogue and only bring to the sessions what they feel comfortable with. The therapist will direct the dialogue and make interpretations when they feel necessary, to help bring about further insight.
Frequency of Sessions
Psychotherapy takes place once a week (sometimes more frequently) and at the same time each week for 50 minutes. Choosing a therapist can be daunting and it is important to choose a therapist you feel you can work with and trust. The better the relationship between client and therapist, the more likely you are to benefit from psychotherapy.
Cost of Psychotherapy
Initial in depth 90min consultation – £140
Ongoing 50min therapy sessions – £85
*Please note, Maria is only working online at the moment and has limited availability. If you would like to contact Maria to discuss availability before booking your initial consultation, please email hello@innerbloom.uk.
Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
Counselling often focuses on a specific issue and is usually short term, comprising of 5-10 sessions. Psychotherapy tends to explore deeper patterns, relationships, and long-standing difficulties, and may last longer. Both can be effective depending on your needs.
What if I don’t know what to talk about?
That’s very common. A therapist can gently help you explore what’s on your mind. Sometimes silence, reflection, or just showing up can be extremely valuable.
What if therapy feels uncomfortable?
Therapy can often bring up difficult feelings. That’s part of the process. A good therapist will support you and move at a pace that feels manageable.
How do I know if therapy is working?
Signs include feeling more aware of your thoughts and feelings, noticing changes in patterns, and having more coping strategies. Progress can be gradual.
Can I stop therapy at any time?
Yes. You’re in control. It can be helpful to talk to your therapist about ending so you can reflect together and bring closure.
Will I have to talk about my past?
Yes for the initial consultation it is important that Maria gets to understand your history and background. However should episodes of trauma in your past be too difficult to talk about, it is best initially not to. Moving forward in sessions you only bring what you choose, there will be no expectation from your therapist.
Is therapy only for people with mental health problems?
No. Therapy is for anyone who wants support, self-understanding, or personal growth — not just for times of crisis.
Can I have sound therapy sessions alongside my psychotherapy sessions?
Unfortunately Maria cannot offer any sound therapy treatments alongside psychotherapy since the relationship is bound by strict confidentiality and ‘patient/client’ boundaries. However, once you feel you have come to an end of your psychotherapy journey, Maria would be happy to welcome you to join her in Sound Therapy sessions.
